About Guen Douglas aka Grape Soda Berlin and Taiko Gallery

Guen Douglas is a Canadian-British artist based in Berlin, Germany, whose work spans tattooing, painting, illustration and design. Tattooing professionally since 2005, she has spent more than two decades developing a visual language that blends bold traditional influences with contemporary illustration, humour and storytelling. Originally from Québec City and raised between Canada and the United Kingdom, Guen’s path has taken her through cities across Europe and North America before eventually settling in Berlin, where she adopted Taiko Gallery, her private tattoo studio. (Tattoo Life)

Although many people first discover her through her tattoos, her practice extends well beyond skin. Drawing, painting and illustration have always been central to her work, providing a space to explore ideas that are often too expansive for a single tattoo. Her paintings and illustrations examine themes of identity, humour, vulnerability, symbolism, mythology and the strange contradictions of contemporary life.

Her style moves comfortably between richly coloured illustrative work, American Traditional influences, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, fine line drawing and graphic blackwork. Rather than remaining loyal to a single aesthetic, Guen believes each idea deserves its own visual language.

Across every medium, storytelling remains at the heart of her practice. Whether designing a tattoo, creating an oil painting or illustrating a product, her goal is the same: to create images that reward a second look—works that balance technical craftsmanship with curiosity, wit and emotional depth.

Outside the studio, Guen has collaborated with restaurants, wineries, brands and independent businesses, creating artwork, branding and illustration that retains the same distinctive voice found throughout her personal work. (behance.net)

Today, through Grapesoda, she brings together original paintings, fine art prints, apparel, homewares and illustrated objects into one evolving collection. Each piece begins as an original drawing or painting and reflects an ongoing fascination with symbolism, culture, psychology and the stories people tell themselves and each other.
